Brandon Kirksey

Head Coach

Brandon Kirksey is in his first year coaching at Asheville Shield, coaching the U17 boys. Brandon comes to the Shield from a very prestigious background in the Game of football. Brandon has played and coached at many levels. Brandon played three years in NCAA D-1 for Campbell University.  While playing for the Camels, he received Atlantic sun defensive player awards and led the conference in mins played and saves. Brandon also played two years for the University  of North Georgia, where he received peach belt defensive player awards, peach belt all-conference and all-tournament team selections. While at North Georgia, Brandon also led the conference in clean sheets, Goals Against Average, and saves. Brandon to this day, still leads North Georgia in all Goalkeeping stats, and ranks very high in Peach belt stats. In 2016 Brandon was honored as one of University of North Georgia’s top 50 men’s soccer players. 

After Brandon’s college career finished, he was given the opportunity to play pro soccer, a childhood dream realized. His desire lead him to Austin Texas, to play for the Austin Aztex, formerly of USL-1, now known as Orlando City of the MLS.  From there his career took him into playing abroad,  Turkey (Iskenderunspor), (Giresunspor), and Armenia (F.C. Banants). 

After Brandon wrapped up his playing career he went straight into coaching. Brandon was the assistant coach for the University North Georgia Men’s team for 4 years. After coaching with the Nighthawks, He went on to coach one season at Young Harris college. Brandon also has many years of experience coaching at the club and youth level. Coaching at such clubs as, Chicago Fire Juniors (Ms),Lone Star soccer club (TX), and Lanier soccer association (GA). Brandon has served as an assistant DOC, boys club coach, and head Goalkeeping coach. 

Brandon has coached many kids, who have gone on to play professional soccer. Most recently Mr. Asheville himself, Cameron Saul. 

Brandon is from Jackson Mississippi.  Brandon acquired his coaching style from long time friend and coach, Rob Walker, A U.S. national team coaching staff member, member of the Seattle Sounders staff. Who trained such soccer icons, as Kasey Keller and Brad Friedel.
