Asheville Shield Football Club would like to congratulate Nathan Girardi on becoming the first Shield player in our club's history to be joining a Collegiate Soccer Program.
Nathan has been an integral part of Asheville Shield's growth over the years and was one of the 'original' starting players in the club. Girardi's footballing ability has continuously improved over the last few years and he thoroughly deserves the opportunity to continue his development at the Collegiate level.
Nathan will be joining a very successful NCAA Division II college; Limestone Saints, Gaffney, SC. Limestone Saints are a fantastic program who are very well known across the collegiate level. The Saints compete in Conference Carolinas where they are always in the running to win the Conference, and have won the conference for the last three seasons. As well as winning the conference, the Saints are a consistently Nationally Ranked side, and have also made the National Tournament in the last three seasons.
Director of Coaching; Nathan Watt, had this to say: "As one of Nathan's coaches, I for one cannot be prouder of him. He identified his dream of playing collegiate football and was extremely dedicated in his approach and because of this, now has his reward. I spent four years playing against Limestone College and know the high standards of their program which makes Nathan's success even more impressive. He has been a brilliant role model for all of our younger Shield players, and I hope that Nathan will be the first of many players from our club, to make the step into the collegiate game. I wish him all the best at Limestone, and look forward to seeing playing there."
This Spring will be Nathan's last as an official Asheville Shield Club Player, however, we know that Nathan Girardi will be a proud Asheville Shield Ambassador for the rest of his career. We cannot wait to see Nathan's development as he takes on his Collegiate journey this August.
